About the artist

Robert Lebsack’s mixed-media paintings layer human subjects and landscapes in ink, acrylic, and charcoal atop fragments of torn sheet music or newspaper. Utilizing bits and pieces of lyrics and text as the literal background as well as the social and cultural context for his art, Lebsack uses the confrontations between his subjects and a surreal landscape to address various crises of contemporary society such as materialism, apathy, waste, loneliness, and isolation. The paper fragments often are juxtaposed seemingly at random, challenging the viewer to read the bits and form their own interpretation through free word association. Lebsack has been exhibited throughout the United States, Canada, Asia and collected globally.
